HR Trends: Fewer Layoffs, More Hybrid Workplaces
More than half of companies are remote or hybrid and have no plans to bring employees back to the office full-time.
As of this fall, fewer companies are planning layoffs compared to earlier this year. Only 29% of companies are undergoing or planning layoffs, down from 45% in the spring 2023 survey. This shift indicates a move away from staff cuts despite ongoing economic concerns.
Hybrid work arrangements are becoming increasingly common, with over half (54%) of companies reporting that they have adopted remote or hybrid schedules and have no plans to return all employees to the office full-time. This marks an increase from 42% in the spring survey.
Employee Retention Strategies
To retain current employees and attract new talent, more than two-thirds (69%) of companies are offering hybrid work arrangements. Other common strategies include leadership development programs (55%), flexible work hours (52%), and tuition reimbursement (49%).
